Pearled candle sand (also called sand wax or powdered candle wax) is the easiest way to make a candle at home. There is no melting, no mould and no mess. You pour the wax granules into any heat-safe container, push in a wick, and light it. In this guide we show you exactly how to do it, which container to choose and how to keep the flame clean.
Pearled candle sand is wax made into tiny round granules. When the wick burns, the granules around it melt into a small pool and then harden again when you blow the flame out. Because the wax stays loose, you can refill the same container again and again, change colours in layers, or mix in dried flowers for decoration.
Burn time depends on the size of the container and the wick. As a rough guide, a small jar with about 150 g of sand wax burns for several hours across a few evenings. A wider bowl with two or three wicks gives a bigger flame and burns faster.
No. Pearled candle sand is used as it is. The wick melts only the wax around it while it burns.
Yes. Remove the burnt wick, add fresh sand on top and insert a new wick.
